Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our IT logistics services, process, and compliance.
General
What types of equipment does DataTech Logistics handle?
We specialize in mission-critical IT infrastructure including servers, storage arrays, network equipment, mainframes, GPU clusters, and all associated cabling and peripherals. Our teams are trained to handle equipment from every major OEM including Dell, HPE, Cisco, NetApp, Pure Storage, Nutanix, and IBM.
What geographic areas do you serve?
DataTech Logistics operates nationwide across all 50 states with regional hubs in major metro areas. We also coordinate international logistics for global data center migrations through our network of vetted partners.
How long has DataTech Logistics been in operation?
We have over 30 years of experience in IT logistics and data center services, having completed more than 10,000 successful moves across 500+ cities.
Services
Can you handle a zero-downtime migration?
Yes. Our zero-downtime migration service involves building parallel infrastructure at the destination, performing a controlled cutover, validating all systems, and then decommissioning the source environment. We use detailed runbooks and rehearsals to ensure seamless transitions.
Do you provide project management for data center moves?
Absolutely. Every project is assigned a dedicated project manager who handles site surveys, dependency mapping, migration wave design, runbook development, move-day command center operations, and post-move validation.
What is your approach to network cabling during a move?
We document all existing cable paths, labels, and connections before any disconnect. Our structured cabling teams handle fiber optic (MPO, LC, SC), copper, and cross-connect infrastructure. Every cable is labeled, tested, and certified post-installation.
Process
What does your typical engagement process look like?
We follow a three-phase approach: (1) Discovery and Planning: site surveys, dependency mapping, risk assessment, and detailed runbook creation; (2) Execution: skilled technicians perform the physical work with real-time project management oversight; (3) Validation: post-move testing, documentation, and stabilization support.
How far in advance should we engage DataTech for a data center move?
For full-facility relocations, we recommend engaging 3-6 months in advance to allow proper planning. For smaller server moves or equipment installations, 2-4 weeks lead time is typically sufficient. Emergency services are available 24/7/365.
Do you offer 24/7 support?
Yes. Our emergency IT logistics dispatch operates around the clock, 365 days a year. For scheduled moves, we routinely execute work during maintenance windows on nights and weekends to minimize business impact.
Insurance & Documentation
What insurance coverage do you carry?
We carry comprehensive insurance with coverage options that scale to the value of your equipment. Our policies cover in-transit damage, on-site incidents, and professional liability. Specific coverage details are provided during the proposal process.
How do you handle data-bearing media?
All data-bearing devices are tracked through a documented chain-of-custody process from disconnect to reconnect. For decommissioned drives, we offer NIST 800-88 compliant data destruction with certificates of destruction.
